The LGBTQ Resource Center strives to connect students, faculty, and staff with the campus resources they need. The center supports academic work by and about LGBTQ people through maintaining strong connections with our academic community. Below are a few of the campus groups and services that may be of interest to you.

  • Sexuality Diversity Studies Minor: The Academic Committee of the LGBTQ Resource Center Advisory Board works closely with the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Department to encourage faculty and students to pursue coursework in the area of Sexual Diversity Studies.
  • Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies Graduate Certificate: The WGSS Department offers an 18-hour graduate program certificate for students. Contact the department at 618-453-5141 for more information.
  • The Speech Communication Department is a strong ally of the LGBTQ Resource Center. Doctoral students can specialize in Gender, Sexuality and Communication.
  • Internship/Practicum experience: Whether a student wishes to work at the LGBTQ Resource Center on a project related to campus diversity or find placement in a community organization in the southern Illinois region, the LGBTQ Resource Center offers support, consultation and referrals regarding internships, practica, and service-learning experiences. Interns and Practicum students have been involved in the center almost every semester in recent years! Contact our staff at angela.towne@siu.edu for more information.
  • Research Listserve: The resource center receives frequent requests from researchers recruiting participants for their studies. To reduce the amount of unwanted email our community members receive, we maintain an email list of people who have expressed interest in participating in studies related to sexual orientation and gender identity.
