Be a QUEERleader!

QM is a mentorship program which offers connection, skills, and growth opportunities beyond compare.

Mentees must be enrolled full time at SIU. You will get guidance and support from rigorously vetted mentors, who will be supervised by the QM training committee. You will be expected to engage and grow with an open mind and heart and contribute your own effort to making QM great. After your time as a mentee, you can choose to pursue a turn as a mentor and truly capitalize on everything QM—and SIU—has to offer.

Junior Mentors must have completed 30 credit hours OR 2 ful,l consecutive semesters on campus at SIU. You will begin training to become a mentor. You will work closely with the training committee to sharpen your skills and explore your leadership style. You will begin to learn more about the world of advocacy, systemic activism, and success both at SIU and in your post-graduate goals.

Mentors must have completed 60 credit hours, 30 of which must have been consecutively on campus at SIU. You will become an invaluable resource to Queer and Ally students, faculty, and staff at SIU. You will get direct supervision from the QM training committee of faculty and staff, cultivating professional networks and furthering growth opportunities.

Community track — This track of for students who identify as part of the LGBTQIA community. You will learn the history of the community, the importance of challenging implicit biases such as racism, ageism, ableism, classism, within the community. Everyone can be an ally to someone!

Ally track — This track is for allies who wish to gain skills and knowledge to mentor other allies. You do important work!

These tracks are not set in stone! We are all here to grow and change. If you start out as an ally and then learn something new about who you are, switch to the community track, and vice versa.

Note: as 2020-2021 is the first year of the program (and the year of COVID-19), only the mentee and junior mentor tracks are open.
