LGBTQ Programs and Events

Main Content

Events and programs focusing on LGBTQ issues and identities are held all year on campus. The LGBTQ Resource Center staff can provide a variety of services to campus and community members.  We want to make it easier for people to come to and remain at SIU. If we cannot provide the service directly, we will do our best to find somebody who can.

Here are a few highlights:

  • LGBTQ History Month: Each October, the LGBTQ Resource Center, in partnership with the Center for Inclusive Excellence, coordinates a full calendar of campus and community happenings for LGBTQ History Month. The calendar includes events and activities sponsored by many different individuals, groups, and departments, including the LGBTQ Resource Center.  To get involved with the planning committee for the next LGBTQ History Month, contact the LGBTQ Resource Center at
  • World AIDS Day events: The Student Health Center is a partner in supporting events coordinated by the Southern Illinois AIDS Walk.
  • April Awareness Week: TBD
  • Lavender Graduation: Pre-Commencement Lavender Graduation is an annual spring celebration and ceremony for SIU LGBTQ graduates. If you are or would like to nonimate a Lavender Graduate, email our staff at
