LGBTQ Programs and Events

Events and programs focusing on LGBTQIA+ concerns, culture, and identities are held all year on campus. The LGBTQ Resource Center staff provides various services to campus and community members.
Here are a few highlights:
- Meet Your Mentors party! All LGBTQIA+ and questioning 1st and 2nd year students interested in mentorship are invited to attend this free event to learn more about the Queer Mentors program and meet the mentors! Free pizza, games, prizes, with no obligation to become a mentee. February 7th 6:00-8:00pm Student Services Building rm 150.
- Black and Queer Join this roundtable to discuss experiences and concerns that queer students of color face. Be heard. Get community support. April 13, 2023 4:30-6:00pm Student Services Building rm 150
- Valentines Day Bash! Celebrate love and friendship with your fellow LGBTQIA+ students on Valentine's Day. Enjoy playing games, painting, crafting, card making, and refreshments with everyone! February 14th 3-5:00pm Student Services Building rm 150.
- Zero Discrimination Day began as a day of support for people with living with HIV and has since evolved into a day of commitment to confront biases of all kinds. Games, education, resources, and free lunch. March 2nd 11:00am-1:00pm Student Center Old Main Rotunda.
- Bisexual Health Awareness Join us for Sex in the Spring in Morris Library Rotunda from 11:00am-1:00pm. Queer Jeopardy will be held in the Guyon Auditorium where you will learn more about bisexual invisibility and the resulting health disparities, as well as what we can do to support bisexual people.
- Lesbian Visibility Day Celebrate women who love women by making your own button or tie dye t-shirt! Stop by Fanor Pavilion April 26th 11:00am-1:00pm.
- Lavender Graduation Pre-Commencement Lavender Graduation is an annual spring celebration and ceremony for SIU LGBTQ graduates is April 28, 2023 at 5:00pm in SC Old Main room. Register to attend here: Lavender Graduation | SIU
- LGBTQ History Month: Each October, the LGBTQ Resource Center, in partnership with departments across campus and community, coordinates a full calendar of campus and community happenings for LGBTQ History Month. To get involved with the planning committee for the next LGBTQ History Month, contact the LGBTQ Resource Center at angela.towne@siu.edu
- Catch a film with Queer Cinema the first Thursday of every month (except for April 13th) during the Spring semester from 7:00-9:30pm in the Student Center auditorium. Free popcorn, candy, giveaways, and discussion.
