Events and programs focusing on LGBTQIA+ concerns, culture, and identities are held all year on campus. The LGBTQ Resource Center staff provides various services to campus and community members.
Here are a few highlights:
OCTOBER 1-31 – LGBTQ+ Exhibits 8:30AM–4:30 PM @ Hall of Presidents, Morris Library
TUE OCTOBER 1
Kickoff Celebration 12 pm @ Guyon Auditorium, Morris Library
Featuring remarks from the LGBTQ Resource Center, the LGBTQ+ Faculty and Staff Council, the Saluki Rainbow Network, and the Lavender Alumni Network. Followed shortly by an LGBTQ+ Resource Fair in the rotunda and two LGBTQ+ History Month exhibits in the Hall of Presidents.
WED OCTOBER 2
Lavender Lattes: Drag Pedagogy 9 AM @ Iroquois Room, Student Center
Enjoy some coffee and talk about queer research happening here at SIU! Presented by Franklin Kimmell.
THU OCTOBER 3
Voter Registration 1-5 PM @ Table by North End Escalator, Student Center
Get registered in person at the Student Center! Hosted by the League of Women’s Voters of Jackson County.
FRI OCTOBER 4
Floats with Folx 12 PM @ Student Services Building 170
All welcome! Mix, mingle, and make your own float with a variety of sodas. Hosted by the LGBTQ+ Faculty and Staff Council.
MON OCTOBER 7
Queer Cinema: José 4 PM @ Guyon Auditorium, Morris Library
José lives with his mother in Guatemala. It's a tough life in one of the most violent and religious countries. When he meets Luis, he's thrust into new-found passion and pain. Popcorn, candy, giveaways, and a discussion.
Hosted by the Cine Club of the Dept. of Linguistics and the Hispanic Latino Resource Center.

Celebrating the Centers History and Future
2 PM @ Hall of Presidents, Morris Library
Come join us in celebrating the history and future of the LGBTQ Resource Center at SIU! See our exhibits, a photovoice exhibit by Golden Rainbows of Illinois South and a retrospective exhibit by the LGBTQ Resource Center and Special Collections.

“At the Table” Dinner & Dialogue
Doors at 5:30, 6-7:30 @ Carbondale Civic Center
The City of Carbondale, GRIS, Rainbow Cafe, and the SIU LGBTQ Resource Center invite you to personally reflect on LGBTQIA+ History through facilitated dialogue with community members while enjoying a free community meal.

Coming Out Social 1-3 PM @ Student Services Building Pavillion
LGBTQIA+ campus community and allies join in celebration of National Coming Out Day with music, games, and fun. At 2 PM, we will take our annual coming out photo!
SAT OCTOBER 12
LGBTailgate 11-2 PM @ Student Tailgate Area
Saluki Rainbow Network, the LGBTQ+ Faculty and Staff Council, LGBTQ Resource Center, and the Lavender Alumni Network welcome the greater LGBTQ+ community back to campus for the Homecoming Tailgate. Look for the pink canopy tent!
MON OCTOBER 14
SAFE ZONE: Core Concepts 2-4 PM @ Student Services Building 170
All staff and faculty welcome! Participation as an ally in the SIU Safe Zone program helps to create a campus that is inclusive and affirming.
TUE OCTOBER 15
Queer Cinema: The Archivettes 4 PM @ Guyon Auditorium, Morris Library
Founded in the 1970s in a New York City apartment, The Lesbian Herstory Archives is now the world’s largest collection of materials by and about lesbians. The Archivettes is a tribute to second-wave feminism and intergenerational connection. Popcorn, candy, giveaways, and a discussion!

International Pronouns Day
8 AM-3:30 PM @ LGBTQ Resource Center, Student Services Building 135
Visit the LGBTQ Resource Center and customize your own pronoun pin! There will be snacks and freebees!
THU OCTOBER 17
Wear Purple for Spirit Day!
Wear purple as a visible sign of support for LGBTQ youth and against bullying as well as to honor LGBTQ victims of suicide.
Healthy Queer Relationships Workshop 1-3 PM Student Services Building 150/160
Learn about healthy queer relationships with Confidential Advocate Rose Robinson-Berkman! Hosted by Wellness and Health Promotion Services.

KEYNOTE: LGBTQ+ History Month Creator Rodney Wilson
3-5 PM @ Student Center Auditorium
Rodney Wilson, first out Missouri public school teacher and creator of LGBTQ+ History Month, will speak on the 30th anniversary of LGBTQ+ History Month! Refreshments served in the International Lounge.

National LGBTQ Center Awareness Day
Support the mission of the SIU LGBTQ Resource Center by giving online to our programming fund.
MON OCTOBER 21
SAFE ZONE: LGBTQ+ History 2-3 PM @ Student Services Building 170
Grow your knowledge of queer and trans culture and history, learn about significant events and individuals in LGBTQ+ History.
TUE OCTOBER 22
Lavender Lattes: Hermeneutics, Drag, and Judith Butler

Enjoy some coffee and talk about queer research happening here at SIU! Presented by Danica Jenck.
WED OCTOBER 23
Queer Cinema: Monica 4 PM @ Guyon Auditorium, Morris Library
After a twenty-year absence, Monica returns home for the first time since leaving as a teenager. Reconnecting with an ailing mother who no longer recognizes her and the rest of her family who hold her at arm’s length, she confronts the wounds of her past and embarks on a path of healing and acceptance. Popcorn, candy, and giveaways! Followed by a panel discussion with Clare Killman, Heather O’Malley, and Juniper Oxford.

Transition Your Closet 9 AM – 12 PM @ Student Services Building 150/160
Need some new clothes? Changing your gender presentation or style? Shop for free in this clothing closet event! The Career Development Center will be offering free resume checks and handouts for LGBTQIA+ students entering the workforce.

Talking Crafts with CAPS 3-4 PM @ Student Services Building 170
Build your vision board around the theme of self-care while talking with Counseling and Psychological Services about navigating self-care and queer mental health. Allies welcome!
No Shame Theater: LGBTQ+ Variety Show
11 PM @ Moe Theater, Communications Building
The purpose of No Shame Theater is to cultivate a space in which any student, theater or non-theater, can come and perform without shame! This month's audience participation theme is SOMETHING QUEER. Come out and show out! Free entry, but suggested donation of canned or dry food for the pantry.

Intersex Awareness Day!
Spooky Saluki Costume Dance 7-10pm @ Student Center Ballrooms
Saluki Furry Society is hosting a FREE costume dance that is a safe and welcoming environment for students and staff. Free snacks and drinks are provided. Get creative with costumes, outfits, or cosplay and have a good time!

Enjoy refreshments and listen to a panel discussion with queer elders and youth on the month’s theme: “Reclaiming Queer History”

Our Safe Zone program is growing—are you interested in facilitating Safe Zone training? Join this training to find out the ins and outs of creating a safer and more empowering environment for the LGBTQ+ campus community. Open to all SIU faculty and staff.
WED OCTOBER 30
Queer Cinema: We Are All Going to the World's Fair
5 PM in the Sharp Museum Auditorium, Faner Hall
Alone in her attic bedroom, teenager Casey becomes immersed in an online role-playing horror game, wherein she begins to document the changes that may or may not be happening to her. Finish out LGBTQ+ History Month with Saluki Rainbow Network! Pizza, popcorn, candy, and a discussion!
